Nemam sna i ova noć mi je preduga
a novi dan kao presuda
da moram živeti sam
nevera, tvoja k’o senka me pratila
a onda mača se latila, muke mi skratila
Pogledaj, pre nego odem
bar me pogledaj
pa okreni leđa ne zna laž
da vređa k’o istina
A kada umrem ti me ne gledaj
svi drugi plakače, ti zapevaj
uzmi buket cveća, dukate sa veđa
pa drugom daj
Nemam sna i ova noć mi je preduga
a novi dan kao presuda
da moram živeti sam
nevera, tvoja k’o senka me pratila
a onda mača se latila, muke mi skratila
English Translation
Ducats
I can’t sleep and this night is too long
and a new day is like a verdict
that I have to live alone
your infidelity, like a shadow, has followed me
and than took out a sword and cut my pain
Look, before I leave
at least look at me
than turn your back, a lie doesn’t know
to insult like the truth
But when I die don’t look at me
everybody else will cry, you sing
take a bouquet of flowers, ducats from eyebrows
and than give it to someone else
I can’t sleep and this night is too long
and a new day is like a verdict
that I have to live alone
your infidelity, like a shadow, has followed me
and than took out a sword and cut my pain
thanks Tijana 😀 it’s ok Spring, I didn’t know what meant vedja means either so we’re even 😆
Thank you Tijana! I was wondering what Croatian eyebrows were doing in the song 😆
Sorry Sarah I led you in the wrong direction 😮
Vedja is an old term for a forehead (in Serbia traditionally, stemming from pagan times, when someone dies they place two coins on each of the eyes, symbolically for the deceased to take with them to heaven).. he is saying when I die, take the flower bouqet and the coins from my eyes/forehead and give them to someone else (keep loving someone else..)
Yep 😆
Now you know not to trust dictionaries before your own common sense! 😀
I am not sure what vedyu is, I just look up the serbian word in the dictionary and it gave me vedyu 😆 🙂
Sarah, if you tell me what Vedyu is, I will be quite happy! lol
Veđe = obrve 🙂
