Oro
Serbia 2008 Eurovision Song
Beovizija 2008 Winner
Ko li miluje, milo moje,
Ko li usne te, snene budi,
Ne zaboravi ime moje,
kada krene da, da te ljubi
Klasje moje ne spavaj
Njega ljubi, mene uspavaj
Ne lomi mi led, vodu nema
Ne soli mi ranu, suza nema,
Ko li zaigra oro moje,
Neka ne igra za nas dvoje
Klasje moje, mene uspavaj.
Nuna nej, nuna nuna nuna nuna nuna nej,
Na Vidovdan, probudi me, da ga opet pogledam.
Na Vidovdan, probudi me, jos jednom da ga opet pogledam
English Translation
Hora
Who is caressing, my dear one
Who is waking up those sleepy lips
Don’t forget my name
when she starts, starts to kiss you,
My wheat, do not sleep,
kiss him, put me to sleep
Do not break my ice, it lacks water
Do not put salt on my wound, there are no tears
Who is dancing my hora
They should not dance for the two of us
My wheat, put me to sleep
Nuna ney, nuna nuna nuna nuna nuna ney,
Wake me up on St.Vitus’ day, so that I can look at him again
Wake me up on St.Vitus’ day, so that I can see him one more time

[…] Jelena Tomasevic with her song “Oro” (”Hora” - a type of circle dance originating in the Balkan) won Beovizija 2008 […]
Ya ya…i know,i am from SERBIA!!! But, ‘Oro’ is one of better songs….i’d rather like for Betty Boop-Kvar to represent us for Eurosong…
Sorry,my english isn’t very good sometimes…
Oro is now boring …to tradicional…i liked her in first moment but i think that Beovision is tricked!Somebody set up for Jelena to win and everybody knows that….am i wrong, maybe?
I don’t know if you are right or wrong…
There is no way we will win two years in a row but I am happy that she won because she has magnificent voice, because her song is traditional, because Zeljko should have won in 2004 anyway and because she is feminine and I’d expect a woman to represent Serbia to be a woman (for a change)!
@novaktod
I have no idea who you were talking to in your angry comment but it doesn’t belong on this site. Why? Because I am Yugoslavian.
I’m not Serbian, I’m Slovenian and I’m usually very objective and before I was to say this, I’ve checked all the other participants’ songs. ALL of them. If Serbia doesn’t win, then I don’t know, who will. It’s the best song. They’re the best in the business and they’ve been proving it now for quite some years.
Congradulations to Zeljko and Jelena! They ARE the deadly combination for all the potential competitors!
song is great…..and jelena has a great voice….but jutro was better….anyway oro is the best song this year……zeljko i jelena congratulations….jablan was also good song but bety boop are the worst bend ever….kiss….and i am afcours srom serbia…..
hi….we are from serbia and big kiss for everyone……..oro is best song…i think that is better than jutro….probably this year jelena won’t win….but is the best song this and probably next year..the best song ever……pozzz
I’m from Croatia and I’m really upset with our song this year… but I like Jelena’s song a lot… really great!!!

@admin
if you are yugoslavian then go to yugoslavia…ohh wait..it doesnt exist hence yugoslavian doesnt exist..you are either a serbian, a croat or bosnian (even though the latter and the former are also serb)…pick one…dont spread your communist dogma here
escfan, unlike you who escaped, I am here! What do you know about what I am “spreading”? And, I will spread whatever I want on my blog! So..dream on!
lol
quite nice song, and the language is cool
but last year’s song from you, molitva, was maybe better though. but this is still quite good. I’m swedish btw and our song really sucks this year
I think Serbia is going to be a winner again, it’s a great song, I like it very much, it almost so good like Molitva last year.
by the way, there are versions in Spanish, Greek and Portuguese of this one too,

and by the way why are the forums gone? :O :S are you changing something with them?
never mind the forums are back now
hej I’m from BiH.. jelena’s song is really great, but our Laka and his song “Pokusaj” is great too… (:
and btw “oro” isn’t boringg!
kiss
it’s a very nice song.
i’m from Serbia and i think it represents our tradition very nice
first i wanted for beauty queens to win but this is also perfect. i think that this is song so beautiful,i love that she sing on Serbian,i love her voice and it,s very nice to represent our tradition.
go Jelena and win that ESC
Serbia song is the best in this eurovision. Congrats to Zeljko joksimovic for the music. Although i dont know any serbian, that song spoke to me somehow. Grats again from Greece
JohnnyC,
have you heard the Greek version? click here
I think it’s magical ; )
Look, who did the translation is not a competent person for the job. I searched for lyrics and I found this translation and I am really cross, since I am a student of English.
To put somebody to sleep is to kill him or her and wheat is not kissing anybody. However here is a better translation and modificated to fit better into the logics of English language.
Who is the one who caresses my dear one,
Who is the one who wakes those sleepy lips.
Do not sleep my chaff and remember my name when she starts kissing you.
Do not break the thin ice, since there is no water,
Do not rub the salt into the wound, since there are no tears.
The one who plays my oro won’t play for us, so
my chaff let me sleep.
Ko li zaigra oro moje,
Nuna nej, nuna nuna nuna nuna nuna nej,
On Vidovdan, wake me up to see his face again.
Thanks anna. Good luck with your studies.
First,
put - cause to be in a certain state; cause to be in a certain relation; “That song put me in awful good humor”; “put your ideas in writing”
put away
Second, wheat is not currently kissing anyone but she is asking wheat to kiss him (a man she loves).
Related to that… chaff is more likely to be used when talking about “separating wheat from the chuff”; it’s also the green stuff in this picture
I’ve also noticed, in a translation on another site, they use the word Cornstalks which is also incorrect because the word she is using means wheat ears and it creates an image like this in minds of those who understand the song
The song is a message a girl is sending to the man she loves, trying to “wake him up”. Vidovdan (Видовдан), St Vitus’ Day is mentioned in order to symbolize love, because, according to an old Serbian belief, on this religious holiday (28th June), girls dream of the man they’ll marry; the man they will see (meet) on St Vitu’s Day.
ORO is the best song and I hope that Jelena will win the eurosong contest. She has a great voice and Zeljko is the best composer. They have done a great job together and they deserve to win the contest.
hi, i’m spanish (please don’t make fun of me, i don’t like “Baila el chikichiki” too). I liked Molitva last year and i also like Oro, and i Think Jelena will win. I’ve listened to the spanish version but i don’t like it. i don’t understand serbian but when i listened to Oro (this word means gold in spanish)i felt it was a very sensitive song that must talk about very deep feelings, despite i can’t find any sense in the spanish version named “Adiós amor” (Goodbye my love)i hardly can join one verse with the next one and it’s supposed the boy dies. here is the translation from the spanish version to english:
Stay here by my side
One more night in my arms
Tell me without speaking I feel you
In my heart so lonely
Till the sun illuminates
Give me sleep for my pain
Stay here in my verses
Remain like a glow
In my thoughts
This prayer in my lips
Kisses your skin, my dear
Till the sun illuminates
Nuna ney, nuna nuna nuna nuna nuna ney
Nuna ney, nuna nuna nuna nuna nuna ney
Three tears, my last ones
I send to you to take care well of you
Nuna ney, nuna nuna nuna nuna nuna ney
Nuna ney, nuna nuna nuna nuna nuna ney
My last three tears
I send to you to take care well of you
Goodbye my love, hug me
Wait for me in other life.
I also like “All night long” from Denmark and “Disappear” from germany but i think Serbia will win, so good luck Serbia and please, DON’T VOTE FOR SPAIN

Saludos!
jonti… English pleaseee
lol
thanks
FER, thanks a lot! and of course we wont make fun of you…
lol ok sorry hehe (:
Good song,I like it. I think it is going to be in first five this year,I would like to be first, but we will see.
Big kiss from Serbia. =)
Hello everybody! I’m from Serbia too, and Oro is a great song and Jelena is a great singer. I also like Armenia and Ireland, maybe Macedonia, Bosnia is interesting and funny… Slovenia isn’t bad. But Croatia is awful and, sorry, but the Spain too, althought I love Spanish language, people, music…
I hope wi’ll win again. Go ahead Jelena!
I think Bosnian entry is worse than Croatian. They are both bad but.. what Laka?! jesus!
It’s really a shame for a country that produced Hari Mata Hari, Dino Merlin etc…
So, our neighbors are getting 0,00000000000 votes from me but they can still vote for Jelena, I don’t mind!
Hi there…well,I think that Oro is the best song this year.Jelena has a magic voice n the music is very good. lyrics? excellent.the song represents the spirit n tradition of serbia…She sings about love and at the same time about kosovo…St. Vitus’ day n other…other song that I like is secret combination of kalomoira…It’s not bad-good rhythm. And of course - Believing (russia)…N “hey chiki chiki” is cute too…All of this songs re gonna bee very popular this year, but only 1 can win…
thanks Milena
One thing - I refuse to believe the song is about Kosovo (I posted explanation in one of the comments above) and she said it herself
isnt this song a political ‘tribute’ to not accept that kosovo is independent? my friend who is macedonian think so..so i was just wondering… sorry if my eng sucks.
Your English is fine but your friend is wrong.
The story behind the song „Oro“ is that girl is supposed to dream about her darling on St Vitus day, because if she dreams about him on St Vitus day, she will also marry him. It is believed that if on the night before the day, you put a piece of rosemary called vidovicica under your pillow, it helps you dream of your darling and to marry him.
Jelena’s exact words:
I suppose it’s quite understandable though that everything around here gets associated with politics but obviously, Jelena is not trying to spread any political message (unlike 2007 winner)
I do not think this has any hidden political message or anything. I think esc-songs should be neutral when it comes to politics no matter what opinion the singer has. I cannot see anything that could be political in this text.
But the last year’s winner was trying to spread a political message? I had never heard about that….
That is just because you are not so familiar with Serbian issues… I wish I wasn’t either! lol
I don’t know what Marija Serifovic was praying for at Eurovision 2007 but she has been involved in politics… click
harika tek keli, meyle süper bi parca her zamn böyle gzl oluyor bunların sarkıları,,,,,,,
JELENA IS THE BEST!!!!!SERBIA FOREVER!
I’m form Romania … but I hope she wins … this song is amazing …
Ма наша песма је најбоља брее! Каква Русија, какви бакрачи…Јецо, свака част!!!
Поздрав за Српкињу!
Of course we will win again! Is there any doubt?!
Ma pjesma je odlična.Srbija je ponovo među prvima!!!
I’m not sure that you will win again but you would deserve it definately. I’m afraid the winner this year won’t be a ballad and a song in a native language again, even though most of the by far best songs are ballads in native languages this year! like Romania, Switzerland, Albania, Serbia, Israel….Switzerland did not even make it to the final….
argh take back the native language rule now >_< songs would be better..I think the song should be something that represents your country and its culture more like this does..
The song is great.Serbia is again the winner!!!
Pesma nije nista narocito,Marijina je bila bolja..

I’m from Serbia and live in England..I love this song. I hope Serbia wins again, it’ll just be amazing
Jelena is great..no, she’s the best!!
I also like greece and ukraine..but I don’t get how macedonia and slovenia didn’t make it to the final..
spanish song is nice..but nina by ferry frias is a lot lot better….
jub svima
This is a winner…Peter from Toronto!
ORO is a vey nice song! Jelena has a wonderful voice a I hope that she will win! I’m from Serbia, and sorry because of some little mistakes! ;)) I think that song isn’t borring! I am listening it at the moment and…I don’t know…I don’t know how to say it…IT’S MAGICAL!! Jelena is the best!!! SERBIA RULES!!!!! :))
Finals
Song 23
Serbia can win twice in a row!
Good luck Jelena!!!
Hi ya all I am from Bosnia I think that bosnia will win because of its originality but Jelena really sings great, she is the best female voice in the Europe, But Laka is something else he is funny, and it makes me proud to hear him. Serbia congratulations anyway.P.S. I think this song is about Kosovo and it sholuld be ……….great song and amazin Jelena
in what way can this be about Kosovo? lol….I don’t think it is….anyway the song was nice as before
jao nina…
Well we exchanged our 12 points though I must say I did NOT and once again, did NOT contribute to that!
Sorry but that’s just simple truth.
I’m very sorry that Jelena didn’t win. The song was beautiful, the stage performance was nice, too. The problem might have been that many people recognized a touch of ‘Lane moje’ in the song and decided not to vote for it, in spite of it being really really nice (as if the rest of the songs are not copies of some other songs, lol)
I don’t mean to underestimate the success of the Russian team, but their song doesn’t seem like anything special to me. I wasn’t impressed by the singer’s vocal performance, either. What probably aroused interest of the audience is the performance of Yevgeny Plyushchenko on like two square meters of ice on the stage. Then again, the Eurovision Song Contest is the competition of songs, vocal and stage performance, and singers’ outfits (how awful they may be).
The organizer probably didn’t want to add all these competing categories to the official title of the competition and it still remains the ‘Eurovision SONG Contest’.
Oh, yes, and one more thing.
I knew that the guy who won, Dima Bilan, isn’t of Slavic origin. Obvious, no?!
He’s from one of those small republics of the Russian Federation where the majority of citizens are of Turkic origin. So says wikipedia, and I trust wikipedia (usually).
Darko-really? I had never heard of that before, but ok, I usually trust wikipedia too so suppose it’s all right
Slavs are, or at least are supposed to be red-headed or blond, and to have a fair complexion. He’s neither of these. So I checked his background. Intelligence Ops
I also trust wikipedia especially because they linked us on Eurovision 2008 page!
But I find it hard to believe Dima is Turkish LOL
I will have to do some investigating myself
btw
I will move these comments to Dima post
@admin
Not Turkish. Turkic (turkički in Serbian). Turkish people is only one of those peoples that are included in the Turkic group
Hi from Russia,
I think «Хора» is best track of Eurovision with difference. Great folk song. Well, unfortunately this contest had political resolution as usual
As for Bilan it’s evidently no Slav, but türks (not turkish),- «tatarin» in Russian
best song, best presentation, beautiful singer, CONGRATULATIONS
